Jamestown Settlement Replica Ship, Williamburg, Virginia



Jamestown Settlement features replicas of the ships used by the settlers in 1607 to establish the first permanent English settlement in what is now the United States.  The map shows the path of their trip. The navigational plan was easily stated as, "go south until the butter melts, then go west."

This is the view of Jamestown Island from the "mainland" is probably similar to its look when settled in 1607.  As the sign says, you see the Powhatan Creek, the swamp and, finally, the trees at the edge of Jamestown Island, the site of the first permanent English Settlement in what is now the United States.

These jet skiers and pontoon boaters were part of the entertainment at our recent picnic on the Powhatan Creek, a tributary of the James River.
